Lawal Calls for Urgent Security Meeting Following Bandit Attacks in Zamfara

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has conveyed heartfelt sympathies to the families and communities impacted by the recent spate of bandit attacks across the state.

Last Friday, he convened an emergency meeting of the state security council at the Government House in Gusau to discuss the alarming security situation.

According to a statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the emergency meeting was necessitated by disturbing new developments, particularly credible reports indicating that Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) had been placed along key highways.

The governor emphasized the necessity for a thorough review of the existing security framework. He tasked the heads of security agencies in Zamfara to develop a coherent and practical operational plan aimed at countering these recent threats.

The statement quoted Governor Lawal as saying, "In our commitment to addressing the insecurity challenges in Zamfara State, we have convened this emergency meeting with all relevant security stakeholders."

He highlighted the collective determination of both the state government and security leaders to safeguard lives and properties within the state.

During the meeting, Governor Lawal urged security heads to enhance vigilance, improve intelligence gathering, and implement coordinated responses to the emerging threats.

He charged security forces to remain proactive in preventing bandits from establishing a stronger foothold, ensuring their operations are curtailed, and swiftly addressing any outbreaks of violence.

Governor Lawal also extended condolences to the families of security personnel who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the community and assured support for all affected by the attacks, including provisions for logistical and operational needs to bolster their efficiency.
