A day after publicly apologizing to Nigerians for his remarks regarding the current security situation and economic challenges, actor Aremu Afolayan has been expelled from EKO57, a political support group aimed at rallying backing for President Bola Tinubu's re-election campaign.

PREMIUM TIMES noted that the 45-year-old actor issued the apology following backlash for downplaying the significant issues of rising living costs and security during an EKO57 event.

At this event, Afolayan, who showed his support for President Tinubu's return to power, indicated that he was not personally affected by the ongoing economic difficulties, a statement that spurred criticism from the public.

In light of the uproar, Afolayan clarified that he did not mean to undermine reports of insurgency or imply that such accounts were exaggerated or fabricated.

In response to Afolayan's situation, actor Adams “Lege Miami” Kehinde, a founding member of EKO57, confirmed in a video shared on his Instagram account that Afolayan's membership has been revoked.

Lege Miami also requested that the public cease their criticisms of Afolayan, instead urging them to direct any ire towards him and other active members of EKO57.

"Aremu Afolayan is no longer part of EKO57. Please do not bully him. If you must direct your frustrations at someone, let it be me, Lege Miami, or other EKO57 members, but leave Afolayan alone," he stated.

Lege Miami expressed gratitude to supporters who had reached out, reinforcing their commitment to bolstering President Tinubu’s mandate and the vision of EKO57 for the 2027 elections.

Regarding Afolayan’s earlier remarks, the actor had made it explicit that he would not endorse any candidates in the upcoming elections. He emphasized his attendance at the support gathering stemmed from admiration for the increasing transparency in governance.

"I’m withdrawing from all political associations and focusing on my community. Please forgive me," Afolayan said during his apology.

As reported, EKO57 features several Nollywood figures, including Yomi Fash- Lanso and Remi Surutu, and was launched recently to galvanize public support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
