The Ladies' Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) has revealed its plans to host its first-ever kitty on February 14, 2026, in Abuja. This event aims to formally inaugurate the association’s newly elected president and the executive council for the term 2025-2027.
Scheduled to take place at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Golf Club, located at the NAF Base on Airport Road, Abuja, this kitty will signal the official start of activities under the new LGAN leadership.
In preparation for the event, an onboarding retreat for LGAN leaders and executive members has been set for February 13 at the same venue. The retreat aims to foster unity and strategic alignment within the organization.
Mrs. Lami Ahmed, the LGAN President, emphasized the importance of the event, describing the inaugural kitty as a representation of unity, renewal, and the advancement of women’s golf in Nigeria.
"This inaugural kitty signifies a new chapter for LGAN, centered on inclusivity, professionalism, and a shared love for the game," she stated.
Ahmed further explained that the onboarding retreat is a strategic initiative designed to ensure that the executive council members are aligned with the association's vision and goals for the upcoming 2025-2027 golfing season. She expressed confidence that these collective activities will provide a strong foundation for effective leadership and sustainable growth.
The LGAN president also announced that several dignitaries are expected to attend, including Engineer Andrew Yakubu, the chairman of the event and former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), alongside the special guest of honor, Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
"We are privileged to welcome our esteemed guests, LGAN leaders, players, and distinguished gentlemen to what promises to be an unforgettable event," Ahmed remarked.
In addition, LGAN has made a fervent request for construction firm Julius Berger to accelerate the ongoing renovation of the IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja. This is in preparation for Nigeria’s hosting of the All Africa Challenge Trophy later this year.
During the formal flag-off of the rehabilitation project, LGAN Treasurer Nana Abubakar, who represented Ahmed, highlighted that Nigeria’s successful bid to host the continent-wide championship relied heavily on the quality and standards of the facilities at the IBB Golf Course.
"We recognize that Nigeria is set to host the rest of Africa later this year, and it was these facilities that formed the basis of our bid," Abubakar stated, urging the contractors to hasten their work ahead of a planned inspection in March.
She expressed hope that the All Africa Challenge Trophy in November would be the inaugural major tournament held at the refurbished course, encouraging Julius Berger to ensure the project is completed on time.
