Lionel Messi, the renowned football superstar, reportedly earns between $70 million and $80 million annually at Inter Miami, as stated by Jorge Mas, the club's co-owner.

In a discussion with Bloomberg, Mas mentioned, “We pay Messi between $70 million and $80 million per year.”

Mas highlighted the significance of the investment in Messi, asserting, “Players are expensive. I pay Messi, worth every penny, but it’s $70 million to $80 million a year. Across everything.”

As per the MLS Players’ Association data, Messi's base salary is approximately $12 million, with guaranteed compensation estimated at $20.45 million.

This compensation package makes Messi the most well-paid player in Major League Soccer, surpassing LAFC’s Son Heung-min, who earns $11.15 million, and his Inter Miami teammate Sergio Busquets, who was paid $8.75 million before retiring last season.

Messi’s contract with Inter Miami encompasses much more than just his salary. It also includes ownership rights in the club, which has significantly appreciated in value since his joining. In 2023, Miami was valued at about $585 million, but Forbes now values the franchise at $1.35 billion.

The equity part of Messi’s contract is estimated to contribute an additional $60 million a year to his income, depending on the club's valuation increases. His agreement is set to continue until the 2028-29 season, and sources indicate that his ownership stake will take effect upon his retirement.

The ownership of Inter Miami primarily rests with Jorge Mas, his brother Jose Mas, and football legend David Beckham. Messi's joining has notably elevated the club’s status, enhanced its market valuation, and transformed the financial landscape of Major League Soccer.
