The names of 177 congregants who were abducted on Sunday, January 18, from three different churches in the Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna state have been published.

On Monday, January 19, the Kaduna police released a statement that attempted to refute claims of the abduction, labeling such reports as fabrications propagated by 'conflict entrepreneurs' aiming to disturb the relative peace within the state.

During a press conference in Kaduna, Muhammad Rabiu, the police commissioner, challenged individuals distributing these claims to unveil the names and particulars of the victims, affirming that there was no record confirming such abductions.

This denial has incited backlash from various Nigerian citizens, including the human rights organization Christian Solidarity Worldwide-Nigeria (CSW-N), which accused security forces of obstructing attempts to independently investigate the incident. The group claimed that soldiers barred their team from entering the affected area during a verification mission, despite their proper identification being presented.

On Wednesday, January 21, Sebastine Barde, the president of the Adara Development Association (ADA)—a collective organization for the Adara ethnic group in the Kajuru and Kachia LGAs of Kaduna state—finally released the list of the abductees.

The disclosed list includes entire families. Notably, the Amos family has 13 members captured, while the Jonathan family has 12 members taken, alongside at least nine individuals from the Markus family and six from the Markudi family.

The oldest individual listed is 71-year-old Augustina Matthew, while the youngest is just 5-year-old Salvation Idris.

This incident occurs shortly after a ransom of ₦2.6 million was reportedly paid by the same community to secure the release of 20 residents who had been previously abducted.
