Rio Ngumoha netted a remarkable first goal, setting a new record, to inspire Liverpool to a 2-0 triumph over Fulham at Anfield on Saturday. The Premier League encounter saw the young player achieve new milestones, while veteran Mohamed Salah found the net with what is suggested to be his farewell goal for the club.
Ngumoha opened the scoring in the 36th minute with a skillfully executed solo effort. He created space for himself and curled the ball into the far corner despite being marked by a defender, making it 1-0. At 17 years and 225 days old, Ngumoha became the youngest player ever to score at Anfield in the English Premier League, surpassing the previous record held by Michael Owen.
Mohamed Salah extended Liverpool's lead four minutes later with a volleyed finish. This goal marked his 20th goal contribution for Liverpool across all competitions this season, comprising 11 goals and 9 assists. It was also his sixth league goal of the current season and his first since announcing his departure from Liverpool at the end of the season. This strike brought Salah's total at Anfield to 108 goals in his Liverpool career.
The win, managed by Arne Slot's team, represented Liverpool's 1,500th league victory at Anfield in the club's history.
With this result, Liverpool have accumulated 52 points from 32 games. They now trail fourth-placed Aston Villa by two points in the race for a qualification spot in next season's Champions League.
