Residents and drivers in Lugbe, an Abuja suburb within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), are urging President Bola Tinubu to take prompt action regarding the worsening road conditions in their locality.
This request was made public in an open letter directed to President Tinubu on Wednesday, co-signed by Mr. Michael Nwaohiri, who leads the ‘Fix Lugbe Roads Campaign.’
Nwaohiri characterized Lugbe as a significant residential and commercial centre in the FCT, accommodating thousands of civil servants, entrepreneurs, students, transporters, and families.
He pointed out that key access roads in the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) estate have degraded into “craters” with failed pavements, treacherous potholes, and faulty drainage systems.
Nwaohiri stated that journeys which previously took 10 to 15 minutes now extend to nearly an hour due to the poor infrastructure.
He reported that vehicles frequently break down, transport fees are escalating, and emergency services often face delays due to the road conditions.
Local enterprises are suffering considerable losses as productivity in the vicinity declines, he added.
The most affected routes mentioned by Nwaohiri include 1st Avenue Road, which connects Timber Shed to the Police Sign Board; Mr. Biggs Road linking to the Total filling station; King of Kings Crescent from IK Stores to El Sultan Mall; the Sector F Road traversing the Car Wash area; FHA Phase II from the Total filling station to AMAC Market; and FHA New Site from the Conoil axis on Airport Road.
“Abuja is the capital of our nation, and Lugbe deserves infrastructure that aligns with that status,” asserted Nwaohiri. “We are not seeking temporary fixes; we request durable, well-engineered concrete roads that will serve residents for decades.”
He urged the President and relevant authorities in the FCT to carry out an immediate technical evaluation of the affected roads.
Nwaohiri also called for the government to prioritize the rehabilitation of Lugbe’s critical roads in upcoming infrastructure plans and to provide a definite timeline for their repair and reconstruction.
He expressed optimism that under President Tinubu’s guidance, the concerns of the public would receive the necessary focus.
