Numerous polls in the United States indicate that a large portion of the population is against the idea of the US entering into a war with Iran, yet this has not swayed President Donald Trump from initiating conflict.

On Saturday, Trump formally acknowledged that the US had commanded the military strike against Iran, following Israel's announcement of its own military actions aimed at Iran.

The president has stated that the strikes are designed to eradicate what he describes as an "imminent threat" posed by the Iranian government to Americans, a claim that many citizens appear to reject.

"Earlier today, the US military commenced a significant combat operation in Iran. Our goal is to protect American lives by neutralizing threats from Iran's regime," Trump asserted.

A recent joint survey by The Economist and YouGov, a well-known public opinion firm, demonstrated that the majority of Americans disapprove of military intervention in Iran and are dissatisfied with Trump’s management of the situation.

Conducted from January 30 to February 2, the poll included responses from 1,672 adult citizens in the US. The findings revealed that 49 percent of respondents expressed a moderate to strong opposition to military action, while only 27 percent were in favor.

The survey also highlighted a division in opinions along party lines: while a majority of Republicans supported military action, most Democrats were against it. Specifically, 76 percent of Democrats opposed the attack, contrasting with 57 percent of Republicans who showed support.

Although many Americans are not opposed to the removal of Iran's leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, 39 percent do not support military force to achieve that goal. YouGov pointed out that the margin of error for the full sample stands at approximately ±3.2 percentage points.

Additional polls conducted by reputable organizations like the Associated Press-NORC Centre for Public Affairs Research, Quinnipiac University, and the University of Maryland also reflected significant public skepticism regarding US military action abroad and a prevailing opposition to war.

An increasing number of American voters desire a reduction in the US's active involvement in international matters and less aggressive foreign policy decisions. The AP-NORC poll, which surveyed 1,203 individuals, found that a majority felt Trump had overstepped regarding his foreign policy actions.

Similarly, a Quinnipiac University poll indicated that 70 percent of registered voters were against US military intervention in Iran, with the January survey including 1,133 participants. Opposition appeared to align with party affiliation, where 79 percent of Democrats and 80 percent of independents expressed disapproval of military involvement.

Moreover, 70 percent of voters insisted that Trump should seek congressional approval before undertaking military operations; a requirement that he did not adhere to, raising concerns about a potential breach of the Constitution and the War Powers Resolution.

Critics, including analysts and lawmakers, have condemned Trump's decision to initiate military action without prior authorization from Congress, while members of Congress have sought to pass legislation to curtail his ability to unilaterally engage in military actions against Iran.

Earlier, Trump had chastised Republican lawmakers who supported a resolution to restrict his powers, calling for their ouster.

In his comments, Trump remarked, "Republicans should be embarrassed by the senators who aligned with Democrats in seeking to strip away our authority to protect and defend the United States."

A University of Maryland Poll further confirmed that a greater number of Americans do not favor the US provoking a war.

On the situation in Iran, it has been reported that at least 40 female students at an elementary school were killed due to missile strikes from the US and Israeli forces. Despite this, Trump maintains that the strikes were necessary for the safety of American citizens.

PREMIUM TIMES has also noted that Trump is aiming to instigate the overthrow of the Iranian government, urging Iranian citizens to seize control of their own governance. He stated, "Tonight I declare that the moment for your freedom is near. Seek safety, as bombs will fall everywhere, and when we are done, take charge of your government.", encouraging Iranians that they now have a president willing to take decisive actions.

In retaliation, Iran targeted US military installations in Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and the UAE, putting several Gulf nations in jeopardy as they became embroiled in this conflict. Although many targeted bases seemingly evacuated due to anticipated retaliation, UAE officials confirm that one individual lost their life due to Iranian missile strikes.

Experts have previously warned that such attacks might further complicate the stability of the Middle East, resulting in numerous Gulf nations restricting their airspace and halting hundreds of flights globally.
