Man Charged with Murder After Allegedly Killing His Mother in Ebonyi

A 30-year-old man has been charged with murder in Ebonyi State after allegedly stabbing his elderly mother to death. The incident reportedly occurred in March 2026 during a dispute over her refusal to bathe him.

A 30-year-old individual named Oforbuike Damian has been brought before a Magistrate’s court in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, facing charges for allegedly stabbing his mother to death.

The suspect was presented in court on a single charge of murder.

According to Police Prosecutor David Njoku and Senior State Counsel, the alleged crime took place on March 19, 2026, in Ohatekwe village, located within the Ukawu community of the Onicha Local Government Area in Ebonyi State.

Njoku informed the court that the accused fatally wounded his mother, Mrs. Onyema Damian, with a knife during the incident.

He stated that this grievous offense is punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 33 Vol. 1, Laws of Ebonyi State, 2009.

Chief Magistrate Chinedu Agama ordered that the accused be remanded in a correctional facility since the court does not have the jurisdiction to rule on this case.

Magistrate Agama ordered the case files and related evidence to be sent to the Department of Public Prosecution for legal advice and further proceedings.

The case has been adjourned until April 9, 2026.
