A man is accused of fatally assaulting his wife in Bakawa village, located in the Khargone district's Bediya police station area of Madhya Pradesh, India.
The situation worsened as their six-month-old child also died after choking on milk while being breastfed during the violent encounter.
Authorities reported that the bodies of 30-year-old Champabai Mankar and her baby son were discovered inside their home on Thursday morning, January 15.
Superintendent of Police Ravindra Verma mentioned that police and forensic units promptly arrived at the location following reports of a domestic altercation.
The woman's spouse, identified as Sunil, was found seated next to the bodies and was subsequently taken into custody on suspicion of involvement.
Multiple injuries were observed on Champabai's body.
During the interrogation, Sunil purportedly admitted to murdering his wife.
Initial investigations indicate that the motive behind the crime stemmed from doubts regarding her fidelity.
According to police, the couple reportedly had a heated argument on the night of January 14. During this confrontation, Sunil is said to have attacked Champabai while she was breastfeeding, forcefully pushed her to the door, and struck her using his hands, feet, and a stick.
Believing his wife had merely fainted, the accused is claimed to have gone to bed.
The couple's two other children witnessed the tragic events unfold.
Authorities suspect that the infant may have aspirated milk due to the tumultuous situation, leading to choking and death.
After postmortem procedures, both bodies were returned to their family.
The suspect is now in custody, with further investigations ongoing.
