Military forces involved in Operation Hadin Kai successfully rescued over 150 individuals and thwarted a significant abduction attempt by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in the North-East.
The operation, conducted by the Joint Task Force (North East), took place on March 30, 2026, as confirmed by Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer for OPHK.
According to Uba, troops stationed at Dutse Kura within Sector 2 faced an attack while they were escorting civilians along the Buratai–Kamuya route.
During this engagement, surveillance devices identified insurgents attempting to seize numerous civilians—men, women, and children—using approximately 17 vehicles.
In response to the threat, a Quick Reaction Force was swiftly deployed to support the troops, resulting in a coordinated counter-offensive that drove the terrorists away towards the Mangari region.
Continued pressure from the military led to the insurgents abandoning both their captives and their vehicles, successfully preventing the kidnapping.
All individuals who were rescued were safely transported to Buratai for reunion with their families.
However, during the pursuit as they moved along the Bula Zarma–Mangari route, troops encountered an improvised explosive device, which resulted in serious injuries to five personnel.
The injured soldiers were quickly evacuated for specialized medical care.
The military highlighted that this operation illustrates the bravery and commitment of troops to safeguard civilians and restrict terrorists' operations.
It was also emphasized that this success showcases the vigilance and rapid response capabilities of the forces in the North-East, reassuring local residents of ongoing security measures, especially with the Easter festivities approaching.
