The Nigerian military has refuted allegations of complicity in the terrorist assault on Rukuba Community located in the Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, labeling the accusations as false and misleading.
The claims, which originated from a local youth leader and spread across various social media platforms, suggested that military forces shielded the attackers involved in the Palm Sunday incident. However, the Operation Enduring Peace has stated that these assertions are unfounded and misrepresent the actual events.
In an official statement, the Joint Task Force (JTF) emphasized the necessity of setting the record straight despite the ongoing sorrow in the community, aiming to reassure the public regarding their actions.
Chinonso Oteh, the Media Information Officer for the JTF, clarified that troops acted immediately upon receiving a distress call, deploying to the scene even though it was situated quite far from their base.
He noted that by the time the military personnel arrived, the attackers had already fled, but they conducted themselves professionally to prevent further escalation of the situation and immediately commenced pursuit of the assailants.
Oteh reported that four gun trucks were utilized during their response operation, which adhered to established military protocols, a fact supported by eyewitness testimony and inputs from other security organizations.
The military further asserted that a comprehensive review of the allegations deemed them baseless.
Additionally, they cautioned that such allegations could negatively impact troop morale and jeopardize the relationship between security forces and local communities, urging the public to dismiss these narratives and prioritize verified information.
The JTF assured that they are continuing collaborative efforts with other security agencies to identify and apprehend those involved in the attack, reaffirming their commitment to protecting lives and ensuring peace throughout Plateau State.
