A man has reportedly been killed by a mob following accusations of murdering his father's former wife in a village located in Taraba State.

The incident occurred on Tuesday in Nanguru village within the Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State, according to information gathered by Daily Trust.

The individual implicated in the crime, identified as Ubaido Tanimu, allegedly fatally assaulted his father's ex-wife before fleeing to the nearby village of Garwa.

Witnesses, including Habibu Bello, revealed that the deceased woman originally came from Tella town in the same local government.

She had separated from Ubaido's father years prior and had since moved back to her family home in Tella. Reports indicate that the victim was in Nanguru to attend a marriage ceremony.

Sources claim that Ubaido had previously threatened her life whenever she visited the village, although the reasons behind his threats have not been made clear.

Upon discovering that she was in the village, Ubaido allegedly tracked her movements and followed her to the venue of the ceremony, where he attacked and killed her.

After the incident, Ubaido attempted to escape to a nearby village. However, local youths, along with the relatives of the deceased, organized and tracked him down. They brought him back to his father’s home, where he was swiftly killed by the mob.

Following the event, the woman's family transported her remains to Tella, where she was interred on Wednesday evening.

It has been reported that despite the lynching, no arrests have been made, and many youths in the village are fleeing due to fears of police intervention.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the Taraba Command, ASP Victor Mshelizah, has confirmed the occurrence of the tragic event.
