An explosion involving a tanker loaded with petrol has reportedly left many people in Lagos State with injuries. The incident took place on Thursday morning on the Abeokuta expressway.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that burning fuel was observed flowing in drainage channels within the affected vicinity. Despite warnings from emergency personnel, residents gathered to collect the spilled product.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the occurrence. He stated that the accident involved a diesel tanker that overturned and subsequently caught fire while heading towards Agege.
"The fire has been brought under control, and the burning residual fuel in the drainage has also been managed. No lives were lost. One male individual sustained burn injuries and is currently receiving medical attention," Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu reported.
This incident follows previous reports of accidents in Lagos, including a road crash that injured a husband and wife, and an earlier event where troops neutralized terrorists and rescued kidnap victims in Borno State.
