The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reported the successful elimination of prominent terrorist commanders and fighters during a precision airstrike in the Sambisa Forest area of Borno State.

Conducted on February 28, 2026, the operation was executed by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, under the Joint Task Force in North-East Nigeria, focusing on insurgent hiding spots in the Yuwe vicinity.

According to Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the Director of Public Relations and Information, the strike was executed based on comprehensive Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) efforts that confirmed the presence of structures serving as command centers and supply depots for terrorist leaders.

Ejodame detailed that the air assault, which took place in the early hours, was strategically planned and intelligence-led to ensure high accuracy.

The NAF's strike aircraft effectively engaged the designated targets, conducting bombardments that obliterated crucial facilities and disassembled a significant command-and-control center within the Sambisa region.

“Post-strike damage assessments, aided by reliable intelligence, affirmed the neutralization of several senior commanders and fighters, believed to be orchestrating attacks in the operational theater. The airstrikes also disrupted their supply operations, thereby diminishing the insurgents’ ability to operate,” Ejodame stated.

The Air Force also indicated that surveillance operations are ongoing in the area to track any fleeing insurgents and identify further targets, maintaining pressure on any remnants attempting to regroup.

In response to this success, Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, praised the skillfulness and precision shown by the aircrew and their support teams during the operation.

He reiterated the NAF's commitment to eliminating terrorist sanctuaries across Nigeria.

“The Nigerian Air Force will steadfastly project decisive air power in close cooperation with ground forces until all identified terrorist enclaves are eradicated,” Aneke affirmed.

Ejodame emphasized that intelligence-driven operations will continue to play a crucial role in the efforts to achieve long-lasting peace and security in the North-East region.
