NAN Correspondent and Three Journalists Recognized by NDLEA for Anti-Drug Efforts

On Tuesday, Usman Aliyu, a correspondent for the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), along with three other journalists, was honored by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Edo State.

The recognition was attributed to their exceptional coverage focusing on the fight against illegal drugs.

The commendation was made by the state Commander of the NDLEA, Dr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, during the agency's review and award ceremony for the first quarter.

In his address, Ofoyeju pointed out that the accolade serves to acknowledge the journalists' 'consistent, fair, and impactful reportage' that supported the agency's initiatives against drug trafficking.

He emphasized the vital role media partnerships play in combating drug-related issues, highlighting how the effective communication from media partners aids in enhancing public awareness and community involvement.

'We gather here to celebrate our collective commitment towards establishing a drug-free environment,’ he stated. He also mentioned that this recognition aligns with the initiative by NDLEA's Chairman and CEO, Buba Marwa, which aims to motivate various stakeholders engaged in this cause.

Additionally, the ceremony recognized several officers for exemplary performances in diverse operational segments, including investigations and enforcement procedures. A legal professional, Agbako Afamefune, was also honored for his contributions towards providing legal support to vulnerable defendants in drug-related cases.

Moreover, the event saw the launch of the agency’s first magazine, showcasing its operational accomplishments in 2025 while also educating the populace about the hazards linked to illicit drug usage.
