The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has initiated an investigation into a shocking instance of online sexual exploitation involving a woman reportedly from Edo State.

The investigation follows a viral video that allegedly depicts the woman engaged in the sexual exploitation of her 3-year-old son for financial benefits while streaming live.

This disturbing incident has renewed discussions about the protection of children and their safety on digital platforms.

Justina Lawrence, a child rights advocate, alerted authorities about the troubling content that appears to have been recorded during multiple livestream sessions, calling for immediate action to safeguard the child.

“This is not legitimate content creation; this is abuse occurring in real time. A three-year-old child is being exposed to explicit actions on a live- streaming app where viewers can send gifts,” stated Lawrence.

She further emphasized the gravity of the situation, urging quick intervention by the relevant authorities to protect the child and avert additional harm.

“I am appealing to the Edo State Government and the Office of the First Lady for prompt action in this matter. The child's safety must be the foremost priority, and the individuals involved should face thorough investigation and prosecution as per the law,” she added.

On March 31, 2026, NAPTIP responded to the unfolding situation, confirming that it is being treated as a priority case under the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act.

A spokesperson for the agency remarked, “The Cybersecurity Response Team is actively looking into this allegation of child sexual abuse and exploitation involving a minor on a live-streaming platform. We regard it as an urgent priority under the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, which includes provisions for child sexual exploitation and online abuse.

“Evidence is being collected for potential prosecution of all involved parties. The child's safety and protection are of utmost importance. We encourage the public to report any similar occurrences through our official channels.”

Provisions for child welfare and legal ramifications for such actions continue to be a major focus of the authorities, as this type of situation poses critical challenges to child safety and online conduct.
