Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has disclosed that terrorists and bandits in Nigeria are adopting increasingly sophisticated tactics, rendering them more organized and perilous.
Speaking during an interview on Channels TV's Politics Today, Ndume elaborated on how these criminal organizations are now dependent on local informants and unconventional methods to execute their assaults.
The senator noted that insurgents typically utilize 'hit-and-run' strategies, accumulating intelligence and orchestrating movements within communities prior to launching an attack.
He stated: "Their approach comprises hit-and-run tactics. They gather, exchange information among themselves, and most alarmingly, they also obtain data from certain citizens. They have informants embedded within the society."
Ndume further revealed that recent criminal episodes have included the employment of commercial tricycles, commonly referred to as Keke Napep, to convey explosive devices to designated sites.
"You can picture the bomb that detonated was delivered via Keke Napep. They package explosives and assign them to individuals using Keke Napep for delivery to specific locations," he explained.
He also mentioned his familiarity with the operational patterns of these groups, noting their relentless pursuit of ways to infiltrate communities, execute their plans, and evade capture afterward.
"I understand their modus operandi as they move around trying to find ways to conduct their activities and escape,"
The senator blamed the deteriorating security climate on insufficient intelligence gathering, emphasizing the urgent need for authorities to bolster surveillance and information-sharing networks.
Ndume expressed concern regarding the audacity displayed by terrorists, revealing that some individuals now film and broadcast their activities openly on social media platforms.
"Imagine bandits and terrorists in Nigeria having the nerve to document their heinous acts on TikTok and disseminate them widely," he remarked.
