NERC Reports N207 Billion Revenue for DisCos from December Power Bills

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has revealed that electricity distribution companies (DisCos) generated N207.49 billion in December 2025 from power bills. This amount represents a shortfall from the total bills raised during the month.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has reported that the electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) amassed a total of N207.49 billion from customer payments in December 2025.

This information was made public in the December commercial performance factsheet that was released over the weekend on the regulatory body's website from Abuja.

According to the report, the collective billing by the 11 electricity distribution companies amounted to N258.66 billion in the same month.

"The companies collected N207.49 billion from the billed amount, creating a revenue gap of N51.17 billion," stated the commission.

These figures indicate a collection efficiency of 80.22 percent among the 11 electricity distribution companies linked to the national grid.

The factsheet revealed that these utilities received electricity valued at N309.65 billion from the grid in December.

However, they managed to bill customers N258.66 billion of the energy supplied, resulting in a billing efficiency of 83.53 percent.

NERC noted that the average revenue earned by DisCos was N98.97 per kilowatt- hour, in comparison to the permitted average tariff of N124.30 per kilowatt- hour, resulting in a revenue recovery efficiency of 79.62 percent.

The data showed that Abuja Electricity Distribution Company achieved the highest revenue collection in December, collecting N38.11 billion out of N46.68 billion billed, which translates to a collection efficiency of 81.64 percent.

Ikeja Electric reported collections of N36.20 billion from a billed amount of N43.41 billion, achieving a collection efficiency of 83.38 percent.

Additionally, Eko Electricity Distribution Company collected N38.01 billion from N41.41 billion billed, equating to 91.79 percent collection efficiency.

The report also indicated that Benin Electricity Distribution Company collected N18.38 billion out of N21.53 billion billed, while Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company recouped N17.62 billion from a billed amount of N21.6 billion.

Furthermore, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company achieved collections of N23.60 billion from N28.34 billion billed, and Enugu Electricity Distribution Company obtained N17.57 billion from N23.08 billion billed during the assessment period.

Kano Electricity Distribution Company managed to collect N8.98 billion from N15.64 billion billed, reflecting a collection efficiency of 57.45 percent.

The report stated that Yola Electricity Distribution Company collected N3.55 billion from N4.25 billion billed.

In contrast, Jos Electricity Distribution Company recorded the lowest collection efficiency at 42.92 percent, with N5.43 billion collected from N12.67 billion billed in December.

The commission also mentioned that data for Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company was not available due to ongoing updates to the company’s billing system to comply with regulatory requirements.
