The Nigeria Customs Service's Area Command in Kebbi State has officially reopened the Kamba and Tsamiya borders located in the Dandi and Bagudo local government areas, allowing for trade with the Republics of Benin and Niger.
Previously, these borders were closed due to escalating security threats in the surrounding regions. However, negotiations between Nigeria and Benin have led to the decision to reopen the borders.
On Monday, during the ceremony to reopen the borders, Customs Area Comptroller in Kebbi State, Mahmud Matawalle Ibrahim, announced that the reopening received approval from the President. This move is intended to facilitate the legal movement of goods through the Tsamiya border into Niger Republic, utilizing the Kamba border in Kebbi State.
Ibrahim further explained that the reopening would assist in clearing many trucks from the Benin Republic that were previously trapped, enabling them to officially enter the Niger Republic via the Kamba border.
He emphasized that reopening these borders is anticipated to enhance trading activities between the neighboring countries and improve security within the area, expressing a commitment to upholding the agreements reached to ensure seamless trading operations at the borders.
