A professor at the Nigerian Army University in Biu, Borno State, named Abubakar Mohammed El-Jummah, has tragically passed away while in the hands of Boko Haram.
El-Jummah was kidnapped along the Damaturu-Big Road on March 2, 2025.
His family publicly announced his death in a statement released on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, expressing profound grief over the significant loss.
According to family statements, the professor died shortly after 2:45 a.m. following a brief illness reportedly linked to the severe conditions he faced during his captivity.
He has since been interred following Islamic funeral rites.
A funeral prayer in absentia, known as Salat al-Ghaib, is set to take place on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Ngomari Old Airport Juma’at Mosque, located behind his home in Maiduguri.
Described as a respected scholar and a mentor, the late professor was commended for his integrity and the positive influence he wielded on both his students and colleagues in educational development and community initiatives.
His death is viewed as a considerable loss not only to his family but also to the University of Maiduguri and the broader community.
