A Nigerian individual, after moving to the UK, has disclosed the insights he gained from attending church there, leading him to stop his tithe payments.
He mentioned that he consistently paid tithe to his church in Nigeria and even continued to send money back home for that purpose upon his relocation.
However, upon joining a church in the UK, he observed that the church does not require members to pay tithes and treats offerings as optional, yet they provide food for attendees. This observation prompted him to question what Nigerian churches do with the funds collected through tithes and offerings.
He expressed: 'When I was in Nigeria, I consistently made my monthly tithe payments.
'Upon arriving in the UK, I sent money for my tithe to my home church a couple of times before I ceased afterwards.
'I received a call from my mother concerning my stop in sending tithe to the church back home.
'I explained to her that we don’t pay tithes in the UK, and even the offerings aren’t mandatory.
'I also informed her that we share meals every Sunday, and there’s a facility where individuals can collect free food if they are lacking provisions at home.
'Considering all the tithes we contributed in churches in Nigeria, what became of those funds? There was never a time we had food for the needy or a dedicated space for food storage. Isn’t that the true purpose of tithing?
'In response, she remarked: “You are backsliding.”
