Nigerian music stars Ice Prince, Duncan Mighty, and Peruzzi are currently facing a wave of online disapproval following their appearances at the recent All Progressives Congress (APC) national convention in the nation's capital, Abuja. Their involvement in the political gathering has triggered a significant debate among the public regarding the intersection of entertainment and politics.

The APC convention, which took place at the Eagle Square in Abuja on Friday, March 27th, and Saturday, March 28th, saw the attendance of 32 state governors and more than 8,000 delegates from across Nigeria's 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. The event blended political proceedings with musical performances, with the artistes taking to the stage to entertain party faithful, contributing to the energetic atmosphere.

Large crowds of supporters were present to express their allegiance to President Bola Tinubu. The inclusion of musical performances was a deliberate strategy to boost morale, a practice commonly observed at political gatherings in Nigeria. During the convention, President Tinubu addressed critical national matters, including governance and the party's political standing.

"Let me reiterate, especially to those who often lament and misunderstand us, we do not seek a one-party state," President Tinubu stated, while also acknowledging the contributions of former President Muhammadu Buhari to the nation.

He further commented on the youth, saying, "You are not only the future of Nigeria, you are our hope for a more glorious and assured future."

President Tinubu also assured the public that his administration is actively addressing the country's persistent electricity challenges, despite ongoing power supply issues faced by citizens nationwide.

However, the convention atmosphere was somewhat marred by reports of supporter fatalities during travel to the venue and accusations of the use of tear gas against some attendees outside the main event area.

In the meantime, the presence of the musicians at the convention has generated widespread reactions across social media platforms, with many Nigerians expressing their disapproval of the artistes performing at an event hosted by the ruling party. Critics have suggested that such performances could be interpreted as an endorsement of an administration that some hold responsible for the country's current economic and social hardships.

This incident has once again brought to the forefront the long-standing discussion about the role of entertainers in the political sphere, particularly when their activities align with government functions.
