Kristie Onwukwe, a single mother from Nigeria, recently disclosed the reason behind her decision to turn down a marriage proposal that came with a specific condition regarding her child.
She explained that while the potential groom presented various terms that she initially agreed to, one stipulation— that her son would never be allowed to live with them— led her to reject the proposal.
In her own words, Kristie reflected on how in 2022, she was living her life when this young man expressed his desire to marry her, and she initially responded positively. However, she noted, "No wahala, let’s go ahead with this."
Kristie further emphasized her love for her son, sharing her slight distress when he recently chose to spend time with his grandmother, causing her to miss out on capturing his daily activities.
The man laid out several demands as part of his proposal, which included relocating to a different city and pausing her business ventures to focus on their future. He also wanted her to travel more since he intended for their future children to be born abroad.
However, the pivotal condition— that her son should not stay with them— caused her to back out. "For me, that was a deal-breaker!" she exclaimed.
Kristie recalled this situation humorously on Monday when her son celebrated his 12th birthday, expressing that she couldn’t help but laugh about the proposal. "I refuse to hide any part of my life or to allow anyone to push my child away," she asserted strongly.
She went on to affirm, "While becoming a single mother was not my initial choice, I embrace it wholeheartedly and make that choice every day, and I cherish it deeply."
Kristie expressed her gratitude to everyone who helped make her son’s birthday special, thanking them for their warm wishes, prayers, and gifts. "The birthday boy appreciates it!" she said.
Finally, she ended on a confident note, declaring, "Next time you see me, show some respect because my boy has turned 12!"
