The Nigerian Army's troops, operating under the banner of Operation Fansan Yamma, successfully eliminated three suspected terrorists and recovered an arsenal of weapons in a recent military engagement in Kadam Forest, located within the Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The operation was executed by the Special Intervention Battalion 7 of the Nigerian Army alongside the 8 Division Strike Team, both engaged in Operation Fansan Yamma.
Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 8 Division, released a statement indicating that the troops confronted a notorious terrorist faction associated with the Lakurawa group.
Osoba explained that the mission was launched based on reliable intelligence, which suggested that over 100 suspected terrorists had convened deep within the Kadam Forest to strategize for forthcoming attacks and kidnappings targeting local communities.
"Upon receiving this actionable intelligence, forces were promptly deployed to intercept the terrorists. Contact was established around noon," he noted.
He further elaborated that the ensuing gunfight was intense, with the terrorists attempting a strategic maneuver, but they were effectively countered by the troops who maintained tactical control throughout the skirmish.
Following the conflict, subsequent operations in the forest confirmed the death of three terrorists, while several others were assumed to have fled with bullet wounds.
Additionally, the troops succeeded in recovering one PKT machine gun, two AK-47 rifles, 350 rounds of PKT ammunition, 111 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, three magazines, two communication radios, three motorcycles, and a mobile phone.
Osoba mentioned that ongoing operations are in progress to pursue escaping members of this terrorist faction and to retrieve more equipment.
He expressed optimism regarding troop morale, stating that vigorous patrols and continued offensive actions are planned to curb any attempts of the terrorists to regroup.
