The Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Team has officially departed the country to participate in the Commonwealth Games Qualifiers, set to occur from March 22 to 27 in Luanda, Angola.
This highly anticipated event will feature a total of eight athletes representing Nigeria as they compete against top teams for a chance to qualify for the next Commonwealth Games.
Before their departure, Seyi Johnson, the President of the Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Federation, conveyed his optimism regarding the team's prospects. He stated, "We are confident in the quality, resilience, and determination of our athletes. They have prepared well, and we are optimistic that they will deliver positive results that will secure Nigeria’s qualification for the Commonwealth Games."
Johnson emphasized the significance of the qualifiers, noting that this event presents not only an opportunity for sporting excellence but also a platform to highlight the growing strength of wheelchair basketball in Nigeria.
The team's participation underscores Nigeria's ongoing commitment to the development of inclusive sports and the promotion of para-sports at the international level.
