Nigerian Woman Apprehended in Ghana for Impersonating Police in Social Media Videos

Ghanaian authorities have arrested Esther Obasi, a Nigerian national, following her appearance in social media videos clad in official police uniforms. The unauthorized use of police attire sparked public concern and led to her apprehension by the IGP's Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team.

The Ghana Police Service has taken into custody a Nigerian woman identified as Esther Obasi. Her arrest follows the circulation of social media videos in which she was seen wearing official police camouflage and standard black police uniforms.

The videos generated considerable public outcry and raised serious concerns about the illicit use and misuse of police uniforms, as well as impersonation.

The apprehension was carried out by the Inspector General of Police’s (IGP) Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team over the past weekend.

Initial inquiries have uncovered a connection between the suspect and a police officer. This officer was summoned to assist with the ongoing investigation and subsequently brought the suspect to the authorities.

The officer reportedly claimed that he had lent the uniform to the suspect for washing purposes.

The suspect is currently being held and is cooperating with investigators.

The Ghana Police Service has issued a stern warning to the public against the unauthorised use and abuse of police uniforms, emphasizing that any individuals found in violation will face legal consequences.
