Chinonso Onuoha, a Nigerian woman, has come forward to narrate her painful experiences during her marriage.
Through a series of posts on Facebook, Chinonso detailed the domestic violence, infidelity, and both emotional and psychological abuse she faced.
In one particular post dated February 27, she recounted an incident where her ex-husband allegedly assaulted her for requesting that he inform his mistress to stop harassing her with calls. According to Chinonso, the mistress had frequently called her to provoke and taunt her.
Her narrative continued as follows:
"It was a Sunday afternoon, and my son was really unwell. As we had just relocated to Spain, my ability to communicate in Spanish was minimal," she shared.
"With my ex-husband not at home, I reached out to him for assistance to go to the health center, but he refused."
"His response sounded as if he was in a bathroom. I attempted to persuade him, but he continued to reject my pleas."
"I resorted to translating my son's symptoms from English to Spanish and made my way to the health center alone. The doctor examined him and prescribed the necessary medication."
"Due to the day being Sunday and in a small town, nearly all pharmacies were closed except for one. Back then, Google Maps didn't exist, so I desperately needed his help to find the pharmacy."
"I called him again, seeking his assistance, but he declined. He suggested that I call a friend, but I hesitated, stating I didn’t want to impose on her again. He then proposed I take a taxi and I demanded to know what was so important that prevented him from coming to help. He still refused."
"I ended up asking strangers for directions, which led me to the pharmacy where I was able to purchase the medication."
"Later, I received a call from a familiar number—it was his mistress. Upon answering, she immediately began to verbally assault me."
"She claimed my ex-husband loved her more than me, asserting that he would leave me for her, and she insulted me, branding me as a frustrated woman. I was taken aback, as this was the fourth time I had been harassed by her calls."
"I told her I was indifferent to their relationship; I insisted that if he wanted to be with her, he should do so and not contact me again."
"Fuming with anger, I called my ex-husband and demanded he return home. I deduced that her call was motivated by her feelings of jealousy after he left her to attend to me."
"When he arrived, I confronted him about the call I had just received and mentioned that his mistress must have obtained my number from his phone, as only a few people had it. I asked him to tell her to stop contacting me."
"He then called her in my presence, putting on a dramatic act that I perceived as insincere. I told him I didn't care about whatever performance that was, just that it should never happen again."
"That was when his rage erupted. He physically assaulted me and hurled insults."
"He slammed his hand down, vowing, 'Truth to God, if I do not marry this woman, may I die.'"
"I retorted, asking why he didn’t just marry her, as they were cohabiting prior to our marriage."
"He struck me severely that day, and it marked a turning point for me."
"From then on, even if I witnessed him with another woman, I remained silent. More details were forthcoming."
