The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) unveiled its Strategic Plan for 2026–2030 on Tuesday, highlighting its ambition to fortify service delivery and climate resilience throughout Nigeria.
During the launch event held in Abuja, Prof. Charles Anosike, the Director- General/CEO and Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the World Meteorological Organization, stated that this new initiative marks a significant milestone for the agency in its mission to protect lives and property, a role it has maintained for over 140 years.
Anosike indicated that NiMet is launching a detailed strategic plan aimed at performance management, seeking to align its climate and weather services with Nigeria’s national objectives.
He revealed that upon implementing this plan, NiMet will become the first public institution in Nigeria’s aviation sector to fully integrate a world- class management system focused on five key areas: Employee Growth and Development, Strategic Partnerships, Technology and Innovation, Quality Service Delivery, and Revenue Diversification.
The DG emphasized that the plan’s rollout highlights NiMet’s strong results within the framework established by the federal government's performance- driven governance model, facilitated by the Central Results Delivery Coordination Unit (CRDCU).
“This unit was set up at the beginning of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, with the aim to enhance performance monitoring across various ministries and agencies via a Presidential Performance Bond and a results- driven budgeting approach,” Anosike explained.
Managing Consultant and CEO of Balanced Scorecard West Africa (BSWA), Kayode Sufianu, commended NiMet for utilizing the Balanced Scorecard as its strategic management framework. He lauded Prof. Anosike's leadership and the involvement of senior management and the Balanced Scorecard Champions Team, stressing that their dedication was crucial to formulating the strategy.
Sufianu elaborated that this framework enables organizations to translate strategies into quantifiable outcomes across four dimensions: stakeholder management, financial stewardship, internal processes, and organizational capability.
Furthermore, Prof. Anosike introduced NiMet’s updated core values captured under the acronym I PACE, which stands for Integrity, Professionalism, Accountability, Commitment, and Excellence, emphasizing their importance in guiding the execution of the new strategic plan.
