A devastating incident occurred in the Peruvian Andes where a minibus carrying holidaymakers lost control and plummeted down a hill, leading to the loss of nine lives and leaving 15 others injured.

Local firefighting officials reported that approximately 25 tourists accompanied by their guides were onboard the vehicle, which was situated about 10 miles from the renowned 17,969-foot Rajuntay mountain when the accident took place.

Peru's Health Ministry issued a statement indicating that emergency teams have transported 15 injured individuals to four separate hospitals for treatment.

The statement continued, 'Nine individuals have perished, with seven succumbing to their injuries at the crash site and two others later in the hospital.'

In support of the victims, the Ministry of Health pledged ongoing assistance through its emergency services.

Firefighters involved in the operation noted, 'The tourist bus veered off course and overturned on the highway leading toward Marcapomacocha, about 15 kilometers from the snowy peaks of Rajuntay.'

The vehicle contained around 25 tourists along with their guides, and multiple casualties were reported at the scene on a Sunday.

Upon arrival, the emergency response team immediately implemented a triage process, categorizing victims based on the severity of their injuries to prioritize evacuation to health facilities better equipped to handle critical cases.

The evaluations and stabilization of the injured were conducted at the site before transporting them to various health centers, including a serious case sent to the Hospital of Matucana and others to the Casapalca clinic, aided by the National Police of Peru.

The accident transpired around 5 PM local time yesterday.

Images from the scene depict the vehicle overturned, with personal belongings scattered around.

Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances leading to the accident, with local reports suggesting that poor visibility due to fog may have contributed to the mishap.

Additionally, regional media highlighted that the route taken by the bus is unpaved and traverses challenging terrain.
