The National Judicial Council (NJC) has put forth the names of fourteen candidates to President Bola Tinubu for their appointment as judges in the Federal High Court.
In a statement released on Thursday by Kemi Babalola-Ogedengbe, the council's Deputy Director of Information, it was confirmed that the council came to this decision during its 110th meeting held on January 13 and 14.
The council meeting was led by Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), who chairs the council. As per the announcement, the NJC had decided to wait for security clearances on the selected candidates before sending their names to the president.
Following the receipt of security reports indicating no adverse findings, the NJC officially submitted the candidates' names to President Tinubu on Thursday.
The individuals recommended include: Suleiman Amida Hassan, Muhammad Barau Saidu, Igboko Chinelo Conchita, Onuegbu Chioma Angela, Galumje Edingah, Ibrahim Vera Eneabo, Abubakar Musa Usman, Salihu Aisha Yunusa, Ikpeme Joy Bassey, Shehu Umaru Adamu, Mohammed Ibrahim Buba, Eigege-Binjin Nendelmum Judith, Usoro Kuyik Uduak, and Nwoye Osinachi Donatus.
This group of fourteen candidates is part of a broader total of thirty-six candidates who have been recommended for various judicial positions, which includes potential appointments to the Supreme Court, as decided during the NJC's recent meeting.
Additionally, the council has approved judicial appointments to State High Courts, Sharia Courts of Appeal, and Customary Courts of Appeal across several states.
