The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has scheduled its primary elections for May 26 to nominate candidates for all positions that will be contested in the 2027 general elections. This includes selections for the presidency, National Assembly, governorship, and state Houses of Assembly.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, stated in Abuja on Monday that the NNPP will implement a consensus method for candidate selection across all its wards throughout the country. He also confirmed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been informed of this date.

Mr. Johnson further revealed that INEC had successfully completed a verification of the NNPP’s administrative and operational structures at its national secretariat in Abuja on April 23. He asserted that this verification officially validates the leadership of the National Working Committee (NWC) under Hon. Bala Mohammad, effectively dismissing any claims from expelled members.

He also addressed the ongoing leadership dispute, describing the actions of expelled members who are relying on court orders as futile. Johnson emphasized that a Federal High Court ruling already established that these individuals are no longer part of the NNPP. He accused them of intentionally withholding this crucial judgment from other courts to mislead the judiciary.

Johnson alleged that these detractors are employing deceptive tactics to prolong a failed political endeavor. He expressed confidence that the Supreme Court would ultimately uphold the current NWC’s legitimacy.

He encouraged Nigerians, particularly the youth and professionals, to engage in the party’s ongoing membership registration drive, which covers all 8,809 wards and 774 local government areas nationwide.
