Prominent Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw has publicly criticised the Minister of Power over the ongoing electricity crisis in Nigeria, challenging official justifications for the country's unreliable power supply. In a video published via her official Instagram account, the film star expressed deep frustration regarding the erratic grid performance, demanding that the authorities name individuals who supposedly complained that continuous electricity was damaging items in their freezers.
Addressing the government's stance, Henshaw remarked that power supply remains severely limited, often restored for only a few minutes before disappearing entirely. She questioned the credibility of statements attributed to the ministry regarding citizens supposedly asking for power supply to be reduced, pointing out the primary function of household cooling appliances.
Why did the actress challenge the government?
The public rebuke follows persistent blackouts that continue to affect households nationwide. Henshaw argued that citizens should not be subjected to compounding hardships, especially amid high living costs and severe weather conditions. She pointed out that many families are compelled to function like industrial plants by depending heavily on alternative power sources such as generators and solar installations for basic domestic routines.
What did Henshaw say in her video message?
Speaking directly in the clip, the veteran actress demanded accountability from the ministry regarding the rationale behind recent power sector narratives.
"Mr Minister of Power, there's no light. There's hardly been light. You people will bring it, and then give minutes; it's gone," Henshaw stated in the video. "Like the lies you people tell. I need the names and numbers of these people that called you and said you should turn off the light or you should slow down."
Accompanying her social media post, the actress voiced further exasperation over the socio-economic pressures currently facing the populace, questioning the empathy of those steering public infrastructure policies.
The electricity challenge remains a central topic of discussion in Nigeria, with stakeholders frequently debating reforms implemented by the Federal Government of Nigeria to stabilise the national grid and improve distribution capacity.
