Peter Obi, who was the Labour Party's presidential candidate during the 2023 elections and is also vying for the 2027 presidential race, asserted on Monday that the upcoming general elections must not experience any glitches.

Obi made this declaration while leading his supporters along with various civil society organizations to the National Assembly, where they urged for the swift passage of amendments to allow real-time transmission of election results from polling stations to the Independent National Electoral Commission's Result Viewing Portal (IReV).

Reflecting on the disruptions that plagued the 2023 presidential election due to technical issues, Obi urged the National Assembly to approve the necessary amendments to enhance transparency in the electoral process as Nigeria readies for the next elections.

"What we seek is an electoral system that guarantees transparency from start to finish. We demand an amendment that paves the way for trustworthy and free elections," Obi stated.

He further added, "Allow the elections to unfold through the standard process. Whoever emerges victorious will be accepted. Therefore, why introduce confusion at this stage?"

Obi stressed that as Africa’s leading nation, Nigeria must embrace technology to secure credible elections and live up to its reputation.
