The Yobe State Police Command has taken into custody two individuals suspected of murder and offences linked to drug abuse in Damaturu.
Musa Mohammed, 24, and Abdullahi Musa, 20, are reportedly implicated in the deaths of Adamu Suleiman Saidu, 33, and Ibrahim Abdullahi, 21, allegedly using an axe and other harsh implements.
One of the reported incidents details a deadly assault that took place near Bindigari Primary School.
According to the command's spokesperson, Superintendent of Police (SP) Dungus Abdulkarim, a complaint was lodged with the 'A' Division Police in Damaturu on April 7, 2026, at approximately 2:10 PM. The report concerned a violent incident that occurred around 6:30 PM in the vicinity of Bindigari Primary School.
"Preliminary findings indicate that Adamu Suleiman Saidu, aged 33, was allegedly attacked by Musa Mohammed, also known as 'Aljan,' aged 24, after a disagreement potentially fueled by substance abuse.
"During the confrontation, the suspect is said to have struck the victim with an axe, causing serious head injuries, while the suspect himself sustained minor injuries during the struggle.
"Upon receiving the report, police operatives promptly proceeded to the location, apprehended the suspect, and secured the axe used in the attack, which has been retained as evidence," he stated.
Abdulkarim further noted that the injured victim was promptly transported to the General Hospital in Damaturu for medical treatment but tragically passed away while receiving care.
He added that an inquiry into this incident has been initiated, and the suspect will face prosecution.
In a separate occurrence, the police reported that officers responded to a violent altercation between two young men in the Abari community on April 5, 2026.
"At approximately 13:00 hours, officers from the 'C' Division in Damaturu responded to an emergency call regarding a violent fight between AlAmin Abdullahi Musa, 20, residing in Abari, and Ibrahim Abdullahi, 21, also from Abari.
"The dispute reportedly began over a T-shirt that had been borrowed and escalated into a physical confrontation. During the fight, blows were exchanged, leading to one of the individuals losing consciousness," he explained.
The police spokesperson confirmed that the victim was taken to the Specialist Hospital in Damaturu, where he was pronounced dead.
"Abdullahi Musa has been apprehended, and the investigation is ongoing," he concluded.
Abdulkarim appealed to parents, community leaders, and civil society organisations to collaborate in addressing the issue of drug abuse among the youth.
The command reaffirmed its dedication to combating crime throughout Yobe, highlighting that the ongoing decrease in the crime rate within the state is a reflection of the consistent cooperation and support received from community members.
