Chief John Odigie Oyegun, a former governor of Edo State and a significant figure in the African Democratic Party (ADC), has declared that the party is equipped to liberate Nigeria from the dominion of a current government that he claims has subjugated its people to slavery.
The ex-chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) emphasized that since gaining independence, Nigeria has been heavily burdened, and the time has come for liberation through the ADC.
During the official welcoming of Dele Momodu, who recently joined the ADC at the party's headquarters in Benin-City, the capital of Edo State, Odigie- Oyegun urged all Nigerians to unite in their efforts to alleviate the country's unnecessary hardships. He highlighted the importance of principled individuals like Chief Dele Momodu in effecting meaningful change.
"Our citizens have shouldered this burden since independence, and it has become increasingly intolerable. We must collaborate to free our nation from this unmerited weight, and we require principled leaders such as Chief Dele Momodu to drive this change," he stated.
"Today is a pivotal day for the African Democratic Party, marking an important step forward in our mission to reshape the nation of Nigeria."
Odigie-Oyegun acknowledged Dele Momodu's crucial contributions in keeping the military away from Nigerian politics, stating, "We are gathered here today in another existential fight for our nation's future, which hinges on the collective actions of each individual present."
Odigie-Oyegun added, "Although this is not an official campaign, we are in the process of gathering friends and allies—integrity-driven individuals akin to Dele Momodu. His entry into our party is highly significant."
He remarked on Momodu's background as a media practitioner, noting, "He has scrutinized politics and politicians closely, and now he has made the decision to join our ranks. Such individuals are essential for our country's progress."
In his speech, Momodu expressed gratitude to the party leadership for their support and ensured they could depend on his dedication moving forward.
"Today, I stand humbly before my leaders as I reintegrate into this beautiful process for my state. Many have inquired whether I aspire to be governor or senator, but my true desire is to advocate for our people's interests," he articulated.
"Acquiring the party card today marks just the commencement of my journey. I aim to collaborate with like-minded citizens to reclaim, restore, and reset Nigeria. This nation needs to be rescued from the clutches of a single-party system, and this mission calls for the unwavering commitment of the majority of Nigerians who refuse to live as captives within their own country."
