The Kano State Police Command has apprehended three individuals and confiscated weapons following a violent altercation between rival gangs in the Kabara and Magashi Quarters of Kano metropolis.
The incident, which took place on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, led to the death of one individual and injuries to two others.
According to the police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the skirmish was instigated by a confrontation led by Usaini Noni.
"The Kano State Police Command has detained three (3) suspects and secured weapons in connection with a clash between rival gang factions in Kabara and Magashi Quarters, Kano, that occurred on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, around 10:53 PM," the statement noted.
This conflict was reportedly spearheaded by Usaini Noni from Kabara Quarters alongside Umar Tautau from Magashi Quarters, instilling fear in residents and resulting in the death of Adam Badamasi, also known as 'Choli', and injuries to Ahmed Basiru and Akilu Usman.
"Upon receiving the report, police teams promptly responded to the incident and arrived at a chaotic scene populated by several vigilante groups.
"The area was immediately secured, leading to the arrest of three suspects: Bazallahi Umar, aged 20, Abdullahi Umar, 20, and Abubakar Sani, 23.
"The three injured individuals were transported to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital in Kano, where one was pronounced dead. Police operations continued in the vicinity, restoring order.
"The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, has mandated a thorough investigation to ensure the offenders are brought to justice.
"The police assure the community of their unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property and encourage residents to share timely information with security personnel."
