The Police Command in Osun has reported the arrest of two Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) officers linked to a shooting incident that resulted in a driver’s death in Osogbo, the state capital.
The incident was clarified in a statement by the command's spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi.
According to Ojelabi, the arrest was made following a shooting event at Dada Estate Area in Osogbo that occurred on a Sunday.
'’The suspects were allegedly pursuing suspected tokunbo (used) vehicles when the incident unfolded,’ he stated.
The driver of the ash-coloured Toyota Corolla, one of the vehicles implicated in the chase, was shot and pronounced dead by medical personnel at the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, he mentioned.
The spokesperson noted that the body of the unidentified driver has been taken to a morgue.
Items recovered from the shooting site included a Beretta pistol bearing the breech number 125024, alongside 11 rounds of 9mm live ammunition and one expended 9mm shell.
Additionally, the police retrieved two vehicles: a white Toyota Corolla registered in Lagos under the plate number AAA 400 GQ, and the ash Toyota Corolla with the plate number GFQ 0982.
Ibrahim Gotan, the Commissioner of Police, has ordered a comprehensive investigation to clarify the events surrounding the occurrence.
He reassured the public that any individual found to be responsible will face the law's full consequences.
Ojelabi urged community members to stay calm and work alongside security agencies by providing relevant information that could assist in the ongoing investigation.
