Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have taken into custody a criminal network that specialized in the fraudulent creation of official documents, seals, and certifications belonging to both governmental and private organizations.
The command received information on April 9 regarding the group's operations from a base in the Ogunpa area of Ibadan. Acting on this tip, officers executed a targeted operation that resulted in the apprehension of ten suspects.
Those arrested include Mumini Akanbi, 62; Quadri Muhammed, 31; Salami Tajudeen, 50; Oladipupo Hammed, 45; Oladipupo Taiwo, 40; Olorunosebi Kazzeem, 42; Fatai Akanni, 54; Alamu Kazeem, 60; Olalekan Afeez, 42; and Alex Olanrewaju, 64.
DSP Alayande Olayinka, the command's spokesperson, confirmed the arrests and stated that subsequent searches of the suspects' operational locations yielded a significant quantity of incriminating evidence. Recovered items included a fabricated Police Character Certificate, numerous stamps from the Nigeria Police Force Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Ogun State CID Eleweran Office, Iyaganku Area Command, various Divisional Police Officer offices, multiple Oyo State Government ministries and departments, as well as stamps from different commercial banks and numerous private companies.
Initial investigations indicate that the apprehended individuals are part of a highly organized syndicate involved in producing and utilizing forged instruments for impersonation purposes.
DSP Olayinka further disclosed that all suspects have reportedly confessed to their involvement in these illicit activities and are currently cooperating with the police, providing information that is assisting in the ongoing broader investigation.
