Just a day after Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, transitioned to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is on the brink of further losses as prominent figures in Zamfara State are pressing Governor Dauda Lawal to make a similar move to the ruling APC.
This information was revealed on Saturday by a key APC figure, Iran Muhammad, through a statement shared on X.
Muhammad indicated that Lawal gathered key stakeholders for an urgent meeting to discuss the political future of the state.
In a video alongside the announcement, Muhammad stated that the governor conferred with his cabinet members and PDP leaders, where discussions included the possibility of switching allegiance to the APC.
"The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, PhD, convened an emergency meeting with his cabinet and PDP stakeholders late last night to chart a way forward. During this meeting, it was suggested that he join the APC," Muhammad conveyed.
The announcement of this potential defection arises amid a series of exits from the PDP. Lawal is now one of only three remaining PDP governors following the recent departure of Adamawa's Governor Fintiri.
The other governors still within the PDP are Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.
In recent times, the PDP has been struggling with ongoing leadership conflicts.
Additionally, Dr. Emmanuel David Ombugadu, a former PDP governorship candidate in Nasarawa State, has officially exited the party after weeks of speculation regarding his political future.
Ombugadu, who previously served two terms in the House of Representatives, communicated his resignation in a letter dated February 28, 2026, addressed to the PDP chairman of Ikka Wangibi Ward in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area.
In his letter, he cited unresolved internal issues and the ongoing leadership crisis within the party as reasons for his departure. He expressed gratitude toward the PDP for the opportunities and support he received during his time in the party, while also recognizing the platform it provided for his service to Nasarawa State and Nigeria at large.
