The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged its members and the wider public to dismiss claims of upcoming congresses, asserting that no such events are taking place anywhere in the nation.
This statement was made by the party's spokesperson, Ini Ememobong, in Abuja on Monday.
Ememobong explained that the party is currently focused on a digital membership registration initiative that is progressing effectively.
"The misleading information regarding these congresses is being spread by expelled members who have shown their alignment with the All Progressives Congress (APC), aiming to undermine the PDP and disrupt Nigeria’s democracy," he stated.
He further accused these individuals of using false narratives as part of a strategy to negotiate political appointments with the ruling party, referencing their behavior during the recent FCT Area Council Elections.
Ememobong emphasized, "We cannot relinquish our party to those seeking to exploit it for negotiations with the government, as they did in the past. This stance is contradictory to the principles of multiparty democracy, which is vital for a diverse and pluralistic society like ours."
He reiterated the call for party members and the general public to disregard reports of planned congresses in the specified states.
In related news, the PDP has distanced itself from a circulated graphic claiming to represent a 'PDP Timetable of Activities for 2026', labeling it as fake, unauthorized, and not issued by the party.
The public has been advised to ignore this fraudulent document, described as a deliberate attempt to mislead and confuse party members, which jeopardizes the integrity of the PDP's internal processes.
"Only official notices released via the authorized channels of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Nigeria should be viewed as legitimate," he stated.
Ememobong concluded by affirming that the PDP is committed to transparency and internal democracy, promising necessary actions to hold accountable those who disseminate false information.
