The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Tanimu Turaki, has unanimously endorsed the decision made by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to seek an appeal at the Supreme Court concerning the recent ruling from the Court of Appeal regarding the party's leadership.

During a press briefing following the 103rd NEC meeting in Abuja on Friday, Ini Ememobong, the party's National Publicity Secretary (NPS), stated that they have already initiated the appeal and submitted applications for an expedited hearing to safeguard the party's legal position.

Ememobong noted that the NEC gathered to discuss and affirm multiple resolutions passed by the NWC and the Board of Trustees (BoT), acting on behalf of the party’s top decision-making body.

“The NEC reached a consensus that the decisions were made in good faith and without any disagreement, thus officially ratifying those decisions,” he stated.

He expressed optimism to supporters, asserting that efforts to strengthen the party are progressing and that there is still hope for the party’s future.

While ongoing legal efforts are underway in the Supreme Court, Ememobong clarified that this development does not interfere with the ongoing reconciliation processes within the party.

He mentioned that the PDP is open to discussing the possibility of discontinuing the legal action if agreeable terms can be negotiated between the opposing factions.

Commenting on the situation within the party, Ememobong described reconciliation as a “journey toward a destination,” highlighting a noticeable reduction in hostility and divisive language between the factions.

“We have left the station; although we are not at the final destination, we have made significant progress,” he said.

He emphasized the importance of avoiding destructive conflicts to ensure candidates have a strong platform to campaign from.

According to Ememobong, the peace discussions aim to fortify the PDP as a strong opposition rather than diminish it into a subsidiary of any other political entity.

Additionally, he dismissed any claims of a parallel national convention set for Sunday, stating that such matters are being managed internally to avoid complicating issues publicly.

Ememobong urged party members to engage in the ongoing digital membership drive, reiterating their commitment to provide Nigerians with a viable alternative to the current ruling party. He stressed that time is vital and both factions are striving to find common ground to finalize agreements.

The meeting, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), saw participation and apologies from key party organs, including the BoT, state chairpersons, and former NWC members, indicating a united front within the PDP.
