Habeeb “Peller” Hamzat, a well-known Nigerian TikTok personality, has taken to social media to express his doubts about continuing his university education just two days after commencing classes.

The 20-year-old revealed on his Instagram account that he has been admitted to a private university in Lagos, where he intends to study Law, although he did not specify which institution. Reports suggest it is Caleb University situated in Imota, Ikorodu, Lagos.

Peller voiced his initial excitement about his admission but also criticized those who previously mocked his academic aspirations. However, in a voice message that circulated online, he stated his intention to exit the program due to a perceived lack of financial benefit and a changing focus in his life.

In his words, "I swear to God, I just remembered that I am supposed to be going to school, maybe tomorrow or the next day. I can’t even remember, but I’m not going again. I just realised that I would sit in class for about seven hours without making any money. I would just be writing, watching and playing around, earning nothing."

Peller added, “God forbid. I’m not doing that again. When I entered the school, I noticed that everyone was old and I was the only young one among them. So I need to grow older first. Maybe when I’m 30 or 40, I’ll go back to school. I’m not doing it again, please cancel everything, because I’m tired.”

In a follow-up Instagram Story, he made a special request to the university administration, asking if he could livestream from campus. He argued that this arrangement would enable him to earn some income while attending classes. "Please make una allow streaming for school abeg, as school dey go on, make I put my livestream for one corner dey make some small token," he wrote.

The broadcaster faced substantial backlash on social media, including criticism regarding his grammar and educational background. Some users disparaged him as being uneducated, an opinion that reportedly factored into his decision to pursue schooling in the first place.

Peller later clarified that part of his motivation for returning to school was to enhance his spoken English.

His announcement about potentially dropping out of university has triggered a wave of reactions across online platforms, especially since he gained significant attention from the American streamer IShowSpeed during his visit to Nigeria. While some netizens expressed concern for his decision, many asserted that he should consider enrolling in an online program instead of a traditional university.

The situation highlights ongoing debates about education pathways for young influencers and the balancing act between academia and social media careers.
