Tragedy has struck Plateau State once again, with fresh killings reported just a day after President Bola Tinubu met with families affected by violence in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos North Local Government.
President Tinubu had visited the state to console victims and vowed during a meeting at Yakubu Gowon Airport, Jos, that such incidents would not recur. "To the victims, there is nothing I can give you, whether in billions of naira, but I can console you and promise that this experience will not repeat itself," he had stated.
However, these assurances were soon followed by a violent attack that claimed the lives of at least three people in the Nyango Gyel community, located in Jos South Local Government Area, on Friday night.
Sources indicate that assailants entered the community around 10:40 pm, discharging firearms indiscriminately before making their escape.
Rwang Tengwong, the Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), confirmed the incident, lamenting it as another avoidable assault on innocent residents.
"This cycle of attacks on our rural communities must stop. We call on security agencies to act swiftly and bring the perpetrators to justice," Tengwong urged.
He also advised residents in Jos South, Riyom, and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas to remain vigilant.
Efforts to get a comment from the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Jos command, Alfred Alabo, were ongoing at the time of filing this report, with an initial indication of him being in a meeting.
