Police Apprehend Over 500 Suspects in Joint Operations Across Kano, Ogun, Katsina

Authorities have announced the arrest of 527 individuals suspected of various criminal activities during extensive police operations in Kano, Ogun, and Katsina states. The crackdown also led to the recovery of numerous weapons, illicit substances, and rescued kidnapped victims.

Law enforcement agencies have successfully apprehended a total of 527 suspects in a comprehensive security sweep conducted across Kano, Ogun, and Katsina states. This large-scale operation has also resulted in the liberation of individuals who had been kidnapped and the seizure of various contraband, including firearms, illegal drugs, and other incriminating items.

In Kano State, authorities reported the arrest of 193 suspects following targeted raids on known criminal hideouts between April 10 and April 12. These operations were executed across the state's eleven area commands under the explicit directive of Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, aiming to bolster proactive policing measures.

The seized items in Kano included 51 cutlasses, 15 knives, 41 clubs, 72 bottles of rubber solution, 69 sachets of pregabalin, 259 Exol tablets, and a substantial quantity of dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp. Police spokesperson CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa stated that investigations are actively continuing, with enhanced patrols and surveillance being implemented in identified high-risk areas.

Meanwhile, in Ogun State, a robust security initiative known as “Operation Keep Sagamu Safe” led to the apprehension of 146 suspects. This operation specifically targeted known criminal hotspots and vulnerable areas within Sagamu and its adjacent communities.

The intelligence-led operation saw significant collaboration between various security bodies, including the police, military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Amotekun Corps, Ogun State Community Security (So-Safe) Corps, and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN).

Police Public Relations Officer DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed that all arrested individuals are undergoing screening. Those identified as culpable will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abeokuta for immediate prosecution. Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni lauded the inter-agency synergy and pledged unwavering commitment to maintaining a secure environment throughout the state.

In Katsina State, the police reported the rescue of 12 kidnapped victims and the arrest of 188 suspects connected to 120 criminal cases over the course of the past month. According to DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the command also recovered seven firearms, comprising AK-47 and PKT rifles, along with 974 rounds of live ammunition. Additionally, 30 rustled animals and five motorcycles used in criminal activities were confiscated.

DSP Aliyu further stated that all rescued victims received necessary medical attention and have since been reunited with their families, while the recovered items are being held as evidence. He attributed the improved public safety and intelligence gathering to intensified patrols, focused raids, and strengthened community policing efforts, reaffirming the Command’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property.
