The Nasarawa State Police Command has successfully cleared the Lafia-Akwanga Highway following the neutralisation of a suspected kidnapper during a police patrol on Monday morning.
In a statement from the command's Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ramhan Nansel, it was revealed that officers assigned to the Nasarawa Eggon Division responded to an attempted kidnapping incident near the Rice Mill in Nasarawa Eggon, where armed individuals had obstructed the highway.
Upon arrival, the suspects fired at the police, which led to an immediate response from the law enforcement team. One suspect was neutralised, with others reportedly escaping and possibly sustaining injuries from gunfire.
The PPRO further indicated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohamed, has dispatched a reinforcement team to secure the area and restore normalcy, confirming that the highway is now safe for motorists.
Additionally, it was noted that the deceased suspect was identified as Auta Habu, who was linked to multiple criminal acts. Authorities are continuing their efforts to capture the remaining gang members who fled the scene.
