The Nigeria Police Force has officially dismissed allegations concerning the forgery of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate aimed at the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, describing these claims as unfounded.
This controversy arose after a group of civil society organizations submitted a petition to the Presidency, accusing the minister of providing inconsistent information regarding his educational qualifications and NYSC records.
The petitioners demanded an independent probe into the allegations and called upon the federal government to request the minister's resignation pending the results of the investigation.
In response to the accusations, numerous youth organizations across Nigeria rallied to support Tunji-Ojo, asserting the authenticity of his certificate and praising his leadership capabilities.
The National Youth Service Corps subsequently affirmed that the certificate belonging to the minister was valid.
A technical error had initially led to delays in processing records that resulted in the omission of his details.
Despite the NYSC's clarification, protests persisted among some groups, who continued to pressure the government to remove the minister from his position.
In a statement addressing these allegations, Police Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, an Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police, revealed that the investigations showed no supporting evidence for the claims.
“After a thorough investigation into the allegations, it has been determined that there is no evidence of forgery, alteration, falsification, or unlawful creation of the minister’s NYSC certificate,” Hundeyin stated.
He went on to mention that the NYSC had been consulted during the investigation and had verified the issuance of the certificate.
“The NYSC was contacted and confirmed that the certificate was legitimately issued to the minister. Thus, the allegations are baseless,” he emphasized.
The police's findings confirm the validity of Tunji-Ojo’s NYSC certificate, effectively resolving the controversy surrounding these accusations.
