Police Sergeant Detained for Allegedly Providing Weapons in Nasarawa Heist

A police sergeant has been apprehended for allegedly supplying an AK-47 rifle used in an armed robbery in Doma Local Government Area, Nasarawa State. This follows the arrest of a robbery suspect linked to the incident where a motorcycle was stolen.

A police sergeant currently on duty has been taken into custody for allegedly providing an AK-47 rifle that was utilized in an armed robbery in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The situation unfolded following the detention of a suspect, Justine Gbata, 30, from Doka Village. He was arrested after gunmen attacked Muhammad Danka from Ankoma Village and stole his red Bajaj motorcycle.

The robbery occurred around 1:00 p.m. on January 24, 2026, during which the assailants, armed with an AK-47, fired multiple shots before fleeing into adjacent forested areas with the motorcycle.

Sources indicate that after receiving the report, a collaborative effort was made by police operatives, local vigilantes, and hunters, who pursued the attackers into the forest and apprehended one suspect. At the scene, seven empty AK-47 cartridge casings were recovered.

The injured suspect from the chase was subsequently transported to General Hospital, Doma, for medical attention.

During questioning, the suspect revealed that the AK-47 used in the robbery was provided by an active police sergeant assigned to the Daudu Division in Benue State.

The implicated sergeant has been identified and is now in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Benue, where further inquiries are being conducted.

Law enforcement officials have stated that operations to capture other gang members and recover the stolen motorcycle are in progress, and investigations into the case remain ongoing.
