In a dramatic turn of events, suspected political thugs have burnt down the African Democratic Congress (ADC) secretariat located in the Ubima Community of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Rivers State.

This incident took place on Thursday night, coinciding with the visit of Chibuike Amaechi, the former Governor of Rivers State and recent Minister of Transportation.

Amaechi had arrived at the Port Harcourt International Airport and was on his way to Ubima, his hometown, to confirm the party’s registration.

Reports indicate that the thugs launched an assault on the minister's community, firing weapons indiscriminately in the vicinity.

As one of the key figures in the ADC coalition striving to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 elections, Amaechi's visit was significant.

It was reported that the assailants not only set fire to the party’s secretariat but also returned on Friday morning to establish a roadblock on the Omuawa-Ubima Road, effectively preventing vehicles adorned with ADC banners from entering the community.

Witnesses informed journalists that the situation was brought under control when security forces were dispatched to the area, leading to the dispersal of the thugs.

Efforts to reach the Rivers State Police spokesperson, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, for confirmation of the events via calls and text messages were unsuccessful.
