President Bola Tinubu has sanctioned the purchase of new military equipment, a move aimed at strengthening the capabilities of the Armed Forces in their operations against terrorism and insurgency across the country.

This approval was revealed by the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retired), after he led the Service Chiefs to a meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday.

General Musa stated that the meeting served as an avenue for the Service Chiefs to provide the President with a detailed account of current operations and the general security situation in Nigeria.

According to Musa, the session allowed President Tinubu to gain a direct understanding of the developments on the ground, adding that public perceptions, sometimes shaped by media reports, may not always reflect the full extent of the military's actions.

While acknowledging that recent incidents have occurred, the Defence Minister underscored that security forces have consistently responded effectively, leading to substantial setbacks for terrorist organizations.

He confirmed that several key militant figures have been eliminated in recent encounters, and troops have successfully captured enemy equipment.

The Minister expressed regret over the loss of military personnel, describing such incidents as unfortunate. However, he affirmed that the determination of the Armed Forces remains resolute.

"The commitment of our Armed Forces to ensuring the safety and security of Nigerians is unwavering," he asserted.

General Musa also requested the public's understanding, noting that terrorist groups frequently intensify their attacks during the month of Ramadan. He indicated that military commanders have adjusted their strategies to address this trend.

With the new equipment approved and improved coordination among security agencies, Musa voiced optimism that the security forces will achieve victory in the sustained campaign against terrorism.

"Our agencies are working in concert, fully committed to winning this war," he concluded.
